Week 10
Elisa and I worked together on our ICM project, and we were discussing what we wanted to represent through our 60-second piece. I initially thought it was the 60s era, not 60 seconds, so I thought I’d need more time to research that, but then, while talking to Elisa, I quickly realised it’s 60 seconds. We spoke in detail. Elisa initially wanted to recreate a sound that looks at the experience of a fetus in a womb, then the other thing that she wanted to do was to recreate forest sounds algorithmically, and then the third one was to incorporate memories. I was most in favor of using sound as a medium for showing memories, but that would be hard to do algorithmically, so we decided to work with the forest theme.
Elisa used the noise () function to emulate the sounds of leaves and wind. I worked on the melody function and tried to create harmonics. I used combined ratios from a tritonic and a pentatonic scale, and the scale is arranged so that it includes microtones.
The three words we thought might best describe our piece are nature, alive, and harmony.
